One of our weaknesses is a love of fancy dinners. Today, even though it was -3 degrees (with wind chills well into the double digits, we still went out to eat at Waypoint in Harvard Square, Cambridge. It’s lovely seafood done in unexpected ways. I had the lobster cacio e pepe, with whole wheat pasta. The pasta had a wonderful chew that stood up to the decadent butter, cheese, pepper, and pasta.
We also had smoked shrimp, and this amazing flatbread with peppered butter.
We ended the dinner by splitting gingerbread donuts with candied orange peels (soft, hot, and crisp), and a peanut butter cake, with a lovely meringue topping.
The drinks are a lot of fun too. They have a selection of absinthe cocktails. I enjoyed mine, but, of course, since real absinthe isn’t legal, the only thing that made a nod to absinthe was the faint taste of black licorice.
It was an absolutely perfect night to have tasty, comforting food to wash away the cold and the stresses of the week.
