It’s a simple message. It doesn’t cost you any money. It’s something that takes just a bit of time out of your life, but it is so very important.
Yes, especially when we’re voting for national representatives who have to represent hundreds of millions of people who all have different agendas and opinions, voting can feel like you’re picking the lesser of two evils, but in this election that is objectively not true. One candidate is a convicted felon that has shown a complete disregard for the rule of law and for his fellow man and woman. He cares only for himself. The other candidate has decades of experience in public service at all levels of government and has sworn to work to restore rights ripped away from women by the other candidate. One candidate has concepts of a healthcare plan after having run for office since before 2016. The other candidate has detailed policies outlined on her site, including how to strengthen and reduce the cost of healthcare.
There really is no comparison. They are not the same.
I have already submitted my early voting ballot, and I have tracked my ballot on my town’s website to see that they have received my ballot. My vote counts and will be counted.
And because I feel so strongly about this election, I have donated to the campaign (and received lovely friendship bracelets), I have written postcards to voters in North Carolina and Florida, and tonight I will be phone banking for the campaign. The first time I have ever done that in my life. I’m nervous, but I feel the passion and the enthusiasm and the joy that Kamala Harris has brought to this presidential campaign, and I can’t help but do everything that I can to participate in my civic duty.
There is only one choice in the presidential election.
I choose kindness.
I choose generosity.
I choose women’s rights.
I choose community.
I choose to lift people up.
I choose love.
