When Zelda: Breath of the Wild first came out in 2017, all I did was play that game day in and day out. In my opinion, it was not only the best role playing game (RPG) of that year and, really, of many years to that point, but also the best game of the year period.
Guiding Link through Hyrule was a magical experience, and the pleasure of pure exploration I felt playing through it was both childlike and beautiful. It was challenging, but not too challenging for this old lady gamer, and the different lands were gorgeous. And whenever I heard the rapid piano music indicating that a guardian stalker was suddenly tracking me, my blood pressure would skyrocket!
Breath of the Wild was the culmination of years of Zelda gameplay for me, and I couldn’t get enough of it.
With today’s Nintendo Direct, a new trailer for the sequel, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, made its appearance. There are a lot of familiar enemy faces, but also some new and crazy mechanics (was that a gigantic glowing green hovercraft I saw? Arrows that can bend through space? Rail surfing?) The release date is not until May of this year -- I can’t wait!
