There are so many things to learn on this freelancing journey that I’m embarking on. From the many job boards, some of which require you to pay up before they’ll list you, while others demand that you already have experience editing many books from traditional publishers, to sites like Fiverr and Upwork, where it’s pages and pages of scammy type requests (promises of instant five-star reviews, for example) or requests to edit an 80,000 word book for $15 because the author has no budget.
Sigh. Onward and upward though. I’m still working on projects and stretching my abilities to see what I can do, and I hope that as the months progress, I will become more comfortable with project planning and get more used to the feast/famine nature of freelancing. The other thing about freelancing is knowing how to set times for me to actually rest. When I’m at my computer all day, it can be easy to get sucked into working well past the time I normally would for a corporate 9-to-5. That can easily lead to burnout if I’m not careful.
And on that note, time for me to rest and get a bit of yoga in!
